Pakistan suggests joint working group with Qatar to strengthen agricultural cooperation
Assalamu alaykum - Pakistan on Wednesday suggested setting up a joint working group with Qatar to deepen collaboration in agriculture and pinpoint priority projects, and offered to supply a variety of food and livestock products to the Gulf country.
Agriculture makes up about 19% of Pakistan’s GDP, and the country is working to boost productivity and find new export markets.
The idea came up during a meeting in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Qatari Ambassador Ali bin Mubarak Al Khater.
The minister noted Pakistan’s strong potential to provide high-quality agricultural goods, especially halal meat, fruits, vegetables, rice, and livestock fodder. He proposed forming a joint working group on agriculture to create a formal framework for bilateral cooperation and to identify priority projects.
Hussain also briefed the ambassador on new agricultural products like camel milk powder for production and export, and invited Qatari investors to look into Pakistan’s farming and food-processing sectors. He reassured that the government would support investors under pro-business policies.
The Qatari envoy expressed his commitment to strengthening business-to-business links, saying Pakistan’s rich agricultural resources and skilled workforce could support Qatar’s Food Security Vision 2030. He also mentioned that Qatar’s commerce minister would visit Islamabad soon to discuss fresh investment opportunities.
