Pakistan and Poland agree to boost $1 billion trade, sign MoUs to strengthen ties - As-salamu alaykum
As-salamu alaykum, everyone. Pakistan and Poland have agreed to work on increasing their roughly $1 billion in bilateral trade and signed two memorandums of understanding to deepen cooperation between their foreign ministries and research institutes.
The MoUs were signed while the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski visited Islamabad to talk about expanding collaboration in trade, energy, defense and education. One agreement links the foreign ministries of the two countries, and the other connects Pakistan’s Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad with Poland’s Institute of International Affairs.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar noted there’s still a lot of untapped potential to grow economic ties. He said both sides agreed to expand cooperation in trade, energy, infrastructure, defense, counterterrorism, science, technology and education.
Sikorski pointed out Poland’s interest in stronger links around public finance, fintech, mining, water management and energy. He mentioned a Polish state-owned company already investing in Pakistan’s gas exploration and said mining and energy cooperation could have big potential.
He also highlighted people-to-people and educational exchanges - around 2,000 Pakistanis now live in Poland, including many students - and said Poland is open to legal migration and real study opportunities while taking a firm stance against illegal migration.
Both sides talked about regional and global issues as well. Pakistan raised concerns about actions in Kashmir and cross-border attacks originating from Afghan soil, while Poland reiterated support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and endorsed a two-state solution for lasting peace in the Middle East.
May Allah grant beneficial and peaceful cooperation between nations.
