PA Gresik Records 793 Divorce Cases: Economic Issues Become a Household Nightmare, 80 Percent Triggered by Online Gambling
The Gresik Religious Court (PA) recorded 793 divorce cases from January to June 12, 2026. Economic factors are the dominant cause with 411 cases, followed by continuous disputes (309), adultery (37), and domestic violence (13).
PA Gresik's Junior Registrar Andik Wicaksono revealed that about 80 percent of divorce cases due to economic reasons are linked to online gambling by husbands. This addiction drains family finances and triggers conflict and violence within the household.
This phenomenon is common among young couples aged 20-40 with marriages under 10 years. Interestingly, online gamblers aren't just from lower economic backgrounds, but also those with stable jobs and high positions. Huge losses from online gambling put pressure on wives who have to deal with debt and debt collectors.
Andik stressed that divorce harms children and women, so this phenomenon should be a wake-up call for every couple.
