Officials Seize Gold Underwear in Anti-Corruption Raid on Iraqi Politician
Iraqi law enforcement seized gold, jewel-encrusted panties and bras from the home of a female politician, Hind Al Abbasi, in a massive anti-corruption operation. On top of that, officers also found pure gold bars weighing 27 kilograms and US$57 million in cash.
This operation is part of a corruption crackdown over the past three months, with at least 47 senior officials, including members of parliament, detained on bribery and misuse of public funds charges.
In a separate raid, former Deputy Oil Minister Ali Al Jumaili was caught stashing cash worth around 361 billion rupiah inside a water gallon. In total, US$10 million in cash, 3 billion Iraqi dinars, jewelry, weapons were seized from Al Jumaili, and 40 property assets were sealed.
Prime Minister Ali Al Zeidi stressed there would be no compromise for white-collar criminals and that the operations will continue targeting other big names.
