Nine Indonesians Detained by Israel, Foreign Ministry Demands Immediate Release
Indonesia's Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the Israeli military's interception of vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 humanitarian mission in Cypriot waters, Eastern Mediterranean. This incident affects nine Indonesian nationals who were part of the aid convoy heading to Gaza. So far, at least ten ships have been secured, including the one carrying the Indonesian delegation.
The Foreign Ministry urges Israel to immediately release all crew members, including the Indonesians, and ensure the continuation of the humanitarian mission in accordance with international humanitarian law. One of the Indonesians, Andi Angga Prasadewa, is on the ship Josef, while the status of Republika journalist Bambang Noroyono is still being traced.
The nine Indonesians are part of the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) joining the GSF 2026 mission, bringing logistical aid, medicines, and solidarity for the Palestinian people. Two of them are Republika journalists, Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai, who were carrying out journalistic and humanitarian duties.
The Foreign Ministry has coordinated with the Indonesian embassies in Ankara, Cairo, and Amman for protection and to speed up the repatriation of the Indonesians. Their safety is a serious concern for the government.
