Netanyahu Orders Israeli Military to Seize 70% of Gaza, Hamas Slams Dangerous Escalation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the military to expand its control over Gaza to 70 percent, with no clear time limit. Hamas has strongly condemned the move as a dangerous escalation and an attempt at ethnic cleansing and forced displacement of Palestinians.
Ismail Al Thawabta, head of the Hamas-run government media office in Gaza, stressed that any attempt to impose a new occupation reality in Gaza is null and void. This statement came after Netanyahu's instructions on Thursday (5/28/2026).
Previously, when the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, the Israeli military controlled 53 percent of Gaza. Now that control has expanded to 64 percent, surpassing the Yellow Line, which serves as an unofficial boundary.
