MUI Pushes for Death Penalty for Corruptors with Systemic Impact
MUI Deputy Chairman KH M Cholil Nafis considers corruption more dangerous than drugs and terrorism because of its massive and systemic impact. He is pushing for the death penalty for corruptors in cases with certain impacts.
"Our demand for the death penalty needs to be applied occasionally in certain impacts, as in drug cases. I think (corruption) is more dangerous than drugs in this regard," said Kiai Cholil in Jakarta, Sunday (8/16/2026).
Kiai Cholil asserted that the death penalty is constitutionally valid and not a human rights violation. He encouraged the state to use this discourse to improve the law enforcement system so that it is free from corruption.
