Ministry of Defense Clarifies U.S.-Indonesia Military Cooperation Issue Still in Discussion Stage
The Indonesian Ministry of Defense issued an official clarification regarding circulating issues about military cooperation with the United States. Reports had claimed a final agreement allowing U.S. military aircraft free passage through Indonesian airspace.
Responding to this, the Head of the Ministry's Bureau of Public Relations and Defense Information, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, emphasized that the document in question is still in the initial discussion phase and is not yet final. This statement was released to quell speculation, especially on social media and digital platforms.
The Ministry affirmed that any form of defense cooperation will always prioritize national interests as the highest concern. Full authority and control over Indonesian airspace remain with the state, with applicable legal procedures serving as the basis for every strategic decision.
