MAN IC Sumedang Scores International Bronze Medal with Solar-Powered Cold Storage Innovation
Three students from MAN Insan Cendekia Sumedang-Zahwa Tsabita Karima, Naura Mayla Hana Hakima, and Naufal Dzaki Hibatullah-bagged a Bronze Medal at the 5th International Youth Summit (IYS) 2026 in Malaysia on May 30–31, 2026. They came up with Smart Chill: a solar-powered cold storage system integrated with Internet of Things monitoring, aimed at cutting post-harvest losses in tropical regions.
Hilal Najmi, the principal of MAN IC Sumedang, explained that Smart Chill uses solar panels and batteries to keep farm produce fresh, and can be used in areas with limited electricity access. This innovation is hoped to help farmers cut losses, boost income, and support food security.
Even though they’re still in grade 10, they managed to compete against mostly undergrad and even master’s students. After presenting and fielding questions in front of an international panel of judges, they proved that age isn’t a barrier to contributing through real solutions for global agriculture.
