Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim Criticizes Israel's Seizure of Global Sumud Flotilla Gaza Aid Ship
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim condemned Israel's seizure of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian aid ship in international waters. In a statement on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar called the action a violation of maritime law and akin to piracy, with at least 22 GSF ships hijacked, including six ships involving 10 Malaysian nationals.
PM Anwar urged immediate action to ensure the safety of all detained activists, including the 10 Malaysians, and stated that their communication had been cut off. The Malaysian government is said to be cooperating with friendly countries to expedite the activists' release, emphasizing principles of compassion and humanity.
Meanwhile, there were no Indonesian nationals among the hijacked GSF fleet on April 29, 2026. Two Indonesian activists, Maimon Herawati and Chiki Fawzi from the Global Peace Convoy, are in Istanbul, Turkey, preparing for further participation in subsequent voyages, with about six other Indonesian volunteers set to follow.
