KSP Checks Out the Merah Putih Cooperatives in Sidoarjo, Regent Subandi Pushes for Them to Become Village Economic Hubs
The visit of the Main Expert Staff of Deputy V from the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), retired Lieutenant General Arif Rahman, to Sidoarjo on Friday (6/12) was a moment to see how ready the Merah Putih Village/Subdistrict Cooperatives (KDMP) are in getting the local economy moving.
Sidoarjo Regent Subandi stressed that the cooperatives must provide direct benefits, like distributing Bulog's SPHP rice at around Rp11,000 per kg-cheaper than the market price. The cooperatives are also expected to become centers of village economic activity, support MSMEs, and distribute other basic necessities.
According to Subandi, cooperative managers need to keep innovating so the program works and the benefits are really felt by residents. The Sidoarjo regency government is asking all village heads to fully support the development of these cooperatives, including providing facilities and infrastructure, in order to face global economic challenges and food security issues.
Currently, there are 219 KDMPs in Sidoarjo, and 84 of them already have buildings and ready-to-use facilities. The government hopes these cooperatives can become the engine of village economy, strengthen MSMEs, and improve people's welfare sustainably.
