KPK Finds 55 Kg of Platinum in Langkat Regent's Car, Experts Brought in to Test Authenticity
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) found 55 kilograms of precious metal platinum in the car belonging to Langkat Regent Syah Afandin during a sting operation related to alleged bribery in projects under the Langkat Regency government. The case also ensnares another suspect, Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu'arif, who was a former campaign team member of Syah Afandin in the 2024 regional election.
Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, stated that the 55 pieces of platinum are estimated to be worth around Rp900 million each, making the total approximately Rp40 billion. Platinum is known as a rare precious metal with high economic value and is widely used in industry.
The KPK will involve experts to test the authenticity of the platinum to confirm its value in the further investigation process.
