Kiai Figure in Pati Detained as Suspect in Alleged Molestation of Female Students
GELORA.CO – A kiai figure who oversees an Islamic boarding school (pondok pesantren) in Pati Regency, Central Java, has been named a suspect in an alleged molestation case. Police state that more than 50 female students (santriwati) are suspected to be victims of the actions.
Public protests occurred on Saturday afternoon (2/5/2026) around the boarding school in Tlogosari Village, Tlogowungu Subdistrict. One resident, Ahmad Nawawi, mentioned that this issue has been circulating for a long time, but the boarding school side is suspected of intimidation, making the community reluctant to report.
Tlogowungu Police Chief, AKP Mujahid, confirmed the perpetrator's legal status has been upgraded to suspect. Investigators from the Pati Police Criminal Investigation Unit are still deepening the probe to gather additional evidence. As a result of the meeting, the foundation's management promised to send all female students back to their respective homes within the next three days.
