KH Muhammad Roqib Abdul Wahab Laid to Rest, Emotional Atmosphere Blankets Tambakberas Jombang
Thousands of mourners filled the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Tambakberas, Jombang, on Thursday (30/7) to pay their last respects to KH Muhammad Roqib Wahab Hasbullah, a senior scholar and the son of NU founder KH Abdul Wahab Hasbullah. Since morning, mourners from various regions came to offer condolences before the body was taken to the family cemetery within the boarding school grounds.
The burial procession was solemn. Around 10:30 AM local time, the body arrived and was accompanied by thousands of students, family members, and locals to the grave, with recitations of tahlil and the declaration of faith echoing continuously.
Chairman of the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Foundation, Gus Rozaq, expressed deep sorrow and apologized for any of the deceased's shortcomings, praying that Allah SWT would accept his good deeds. KH Muhammad Roqib Wahab was the youngest son of KH Abdul Wahab Hasbullah and Nyai Sa’diyah Rahmah, who continued the family's struggle at the boarding school and within NU.
The extended family of KH Abdul Wahab Hasbullah has played an important role in NU, including Hj Mundjidah Wahab who once served as Regent of Jombang. The passing of the deceased leaves a deep sense of loss for the family, students, and Nahdliyin, and he will be remembered as a scholar who dedicated his life to Islamic education and preaching.
