Kemenhaj Strengthens Hajj Health Istithaah, One-Year Monitoring System Prepared
Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) is beefing up the implementation of health istithaah as the backbone of hajj operations, with a plan to monitor prospective pilgrims’ health for a full year before departure. This move marks a shift from curative to preventive care, aiming to catch chronic diseases earlier.
In a meeting with the Indonesian Military Health Center on Tuesday (7/7/2026), Head of the Hajj Health Center Dani Pramudya stressed that hajj health services actually start with pre-departure coaching back home. This periodic monitoring system is expected to foster healthy living habits and boost pilgrims’ physical readiness for the conditions in the Holy Land.
The discussion also covered handling high-risk pilgrims, strengthening health-focused rituals, and syncing up with regional health offices. Input from the Military Health Center included developing preventive services, optimizing embarkation check-ups, and hospital partnerships.
Both sides agreed to hash out technical steps to build an integrated and sustainable hajj health system, keeping pilgrims’ health quality in mind from preparation all the way until they return home.
