Jakarta Governor Encourages MSMEs to Use Banana Leaves as Alternative Packaging
An 80% surge in plastic prices in the second quarter of 2026 has been a burden on home-based businesses and MSMEs. Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, stated that this price increase is outside the authority of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, but encourages business actors to innovate.
Pramono believes dependence on plastic needs to be gradually reduced. As a solution, he suggests using more affordable and environmentally friendly traditional packaging, such as banana leaves. This is expected to alleviate the burden of production costs.
