Is it okay to delay my son’s aqeeqah?

As-salamu alaykum. My son is now one year old. We weren’t able to do his aqeeqah when he was born because of money problems, though we did give silver equal to the weight of his hair. We’re planning to do the aqeeqah later this year. Is it permissible to perform the aqeeqah after this delay, since I’ve heard it’s recommended on the seventh day? Also, we’re originally from India but living in Dubai. Would it be better to hold the aqeeqah here in Dubai, or can we send funds to India and have my parents do it on our behalf? My parents say the child should be physically present if the aqeeqah is done in India, so I’m unsure. Please advise - thanks.
