Egypt may toughen penalties for draft dodging
Parliament’s defence committee approved amendments to raise fines and jail terms for draft evasion and missing reserve call-ups - fines up to 100,000 EGP for those evading conscription past 30, and higher penalties for reserve no-shows. Article 7 now equates anti‑terror and national security operations with wartime service. The bill goes to the full chamber next. Committee says it’s about discipline, readiness and recognizing sacrifices of security forces.
