Is It Okay for Men to See Non-Mahram Women in Pictures and Movies?
Assalamu alaikum, I'm not Muslim but I'm really interested in learning about Islam. I've been wondering about something. I know that many scholars say it's haram for a woman to show her face to non-mahrams, and men should lower their gaze and not look at women's faces. But how does that work in today's world? Everywhere you go, there are ads with women, movies and shows with actresses, and just walking down the street you see sisters who don't cover their faces. Even scrolling through social media, you can't avoid it. Half of everyone is female, so how can a brother completely avoid seeing a woman's face? I'm guessing a quick glance by accident might be okay, but staring on purpose is wrong. But when you watch a movie, you're focused on the screen, and most films have women in them. Is that allowed? JazakAllah khair for any insights.
