Iran-US Negotiations in Islamabad Fail to Reach Agreement
Intensive negotiations between Iran and the United States, lasting over 21 hours in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended without an agreement on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Iranian state media stated the failure was triggered by what they described as Washington's excessive and illogical demands, including regarding enriched uranium and control over the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, had previously coordinated with Pakistani leadership.
A source close to the Iranian negotiation team suggested the US delegation appeared to be looking for a pretext to exit the talks. Iran emphasized it currently has no plans to resume a new round, stating that Washington needed an agreement more. On the other hand, US Vice President JD Vance acknowledged the talks ended without a result but claimed the US had shown flexibility.
As of this report, there is no schedule or location set for the next round of negotiations between the two countries.
