Indonesian Defense Ministry Emphasizes US Military Overflight Issue Still in Early Discussion Stage
The Indonesian Defense Ministry has issued an official clarification regarding circulating reports of a final agreement permitting US military aircraft to freely traverse Indonesian airspace. According to the Head of the Ministry's Public Relations and Information Bureau, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, the matter is still in the early discussion stage and is not yet final.
This issue emerged after information surfaced from a social media post by the account @Its_ereko and a report from the international media outlet The Sunday Guardian, which claimed the existence of a secret defense agreement document. The report suggested the document was a follow-up to the strategic meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and US President Donald Trump in Washington last February.
The Defense Ministry emphasized that the document cited in the reporting is not a final agreement, does not yet have binding legal force, and cannot yet serve as the basis for official government policy. This statement was released to quell public speculation and correct public perception.
