Assalamu alaikum! The V conference "The Heritage of Muslim Theologians in Strengthening Spiritual and Moral Values and Civic Identity" took place in Makhachkala, with delegations from various countries, as reported by the press service of the DGI.
Officials, representatives from religious and social organizations, scholars, and media took part in the conference.
Delegations came from Ethiopia, Indonesia, Libya, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, as well as scholars from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Altai, Perm Krai, Samara, Penza, Rostov, and Chelyabinsk regions, among others.
The conference aimed to preserve and develop the spiritual and moral heritage of Muslim theologians, strengthen civic identity, establish intercultural and interreligious dialogue, and exchange scientific and educational achievements in theology, Islamic studies, philosophy, history, and pedagogy.
The program was divided into three sections: "Sociocultural Practices of Islam: Institutions, Daily Life, and the Social Role of Religious Heritage," "Philosophical and Anthropological Foundations of Islamic Tradition and the Formation of Youth Civic Identity," and "Philological and Media Communicative Aspects of Conveying Religious Spiritual and Moral Heritage."
At the plenary session, the rector of the Dagestan Humanities Institute, Nukhkadi Bakhmudkadiyev, gave a welcome speech. He emphasized the importance of reviving the spiritual heritage of scholars from past centuries and its relevance today: "The spiritual heritage of scholars from centuries past is of particular significance and its revival today is especially relevant against the backdrop of increased attempts to rewrite the country's history. The president has repeatedly highlighted the significance of reviving the domestic theological school. Therefore, Russian Muslims face strategic tasks: not only preserving interethnic and interreligious peace in Russia and forming a positive image of traditional Islam in society but also restoring the richest spiritual heritage and nurturing the Muslim intelligentsia."
The head of the Department of State National Policy of the Interregional Office of the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of the North Caucasus Federal District, the Republic of Crimea, and Sevastopol, Sergey Lukyanov, welcomed the participants on behalf of the agency's leadership and noted: "Today, Muslims actively participate in all processes. Civil self-awareness and national religious self-awareness are two inseparable concepts. A person only feels like a full citizen of their country when they realize that their ancestors have lived and worked on this land for centuries, and they are not strangers in their state, having no other homeland but Russia. All of this helps maintain stability in society."
In an online segment, Damir Khayrtdinov, the deputy director of the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science, and Education for Educational Projects, gave a welcome speech. He pointed out that strengthening the spiritual and moral foundations of society is key to the sustainable development of the country, and traditional values remain the basis of civic identity. In the face of external challenges, it's important to develop mechanisms that will enhance state security and national unity.
Main reports were presented by foreign and Russian scholars: Dr. Ishrak An-Najakh, an associate professor from the Sharia Faculty of the State Islamic University named after M. M. Ibrahim (Malang, Indonesia), discussed the principles of religious tolerance in Islam and their manifestations in Indonesia; Professor Nurlan Kairbekov from the Department of Religious Expertise of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan presented a report on manuscript sources of Muslim theologians in Central Asia; and Andris Mohammed Yesufe, an associate professor at Addis Ababa University, shared the history of Islam in Ethiopia and contemporary issues of Islamic identity.
May Allah strengthen our knowledge and help us preserve the best traditions. Any benefit is from Him, and peace be upon you.
