I've deeply hurt the Quran-can Allah's mercy reach me?

Assalamu alaikum, I'm not a Muslim yet, but something's drawing me closer to the faith these days. Looking back, I feel terrible about something I did years ago when I was full of anger and I didn't understand Islam. In that state, I tore up a copy of the Quran and I think I might have disrespected it even worse. The guilt and shame are heavy on my heart now. If I genuinely repent and turn to Allah, is there hope for His forgiveness for what I've done?
