How I Managed to Cut Down My Phone Time Without Deleting Any Apps-Alhamdulillah
Assalamu Alaikum! I used to start my day grabbing my phone, and before even praying Fajr or brushing my teeth, I’d already lost 45 minutes scrolling through memes and videos. My screen time was around 8–9 hours daily, which honestly felt exhausting and pointless since most of it was just mindless scrolling and comparing myself to others online. I tried the usual things like keeping my phone in another room, placing it face down while working, and even setting alarms across the room so I had to get up to turn them off. Sometimes, I’d flip my phone over and try to focus on something else, but often I’d just replace it with another screen! What really helped was combining these small habits with a useful app called Jolt Screen Time. Instead of locking me out completely, it gently reminded me mid-scroll, “Hey, you’ve been here 20 minutes… do you still want to keep going?” At first, I found it annoying, but after a while, it made me pause and realize I was just procrastinating, not even enjoying what I was watching. I also started noting down every time I caught myself unlocking my phone without purpose, using a simple notes app. It might sound minor, but writing it down made me think twice before picking up my phone again. When I needed to focus on work or Quran, the app One Sec helped me enter a more concentrated mindset. Slowly but surely, these small changes added up. Without deleting any apps, my daily screen time dropped by 3–4 hours. I still enjoy watching beneficial videos and reminders, but Alhamdulillah, I’m no longer glued to my phone all day. I feel like I’ve regained control over my time, and I’m grateful. Has anyone else tried mixing little habits with helpful apps? What worked for you, brothers and sisters?
