House Urges Careful Review of Istiqlal Mosque Waqf Management on IDX
The Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque and the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, have been asked to be careful in managing waqf funds through capital market instruments or the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX). Member of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, Maman Imanulhaq, stressed that waqf management differs from commercial funds, it must be productive but still prioritize prudence, sharia compliance, and public trust. He reminded them not to chase high returns with instruments that have sharia doubts or excessive speculation.
Maman encouraged professional, transparent, and long-term beneficial waqf management, without taking high risks. He asked the Ministry of Religious Affairs not to rush into setting a scheme, and to involve scholars, muamalah fiqh experts, sharia economists, waqf practitioners, and the Financial Services Authority (OJK). Alternatives like developing productive assets, micro business financing, or sharia investments with strict supervision were proposed so that waqf remains a source of benefit, not controversy.
