HIV Emergency Among Teens: Critical Analysis and Islamic Solutions
The HIV cases among teenagers in Sidoarjo and Indonesia are worrying, with 1,006 cases in the 18–24 age group. The government focuses on early detection, therapy, and sexual education, but this approach is seen as only treating the symptoms without touching the moral roots and promiscuity.
Islam offers a preventive solution through a social system that safeguards the gaze, prohibits approaching zina, and regulates marriage. Islamic education integrates reproductive health with morals, as well as synergy between families, communities, and the state to protect the younger generation.
Acting Director General of P2P at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Andi Saguni, stated the increase in detected cases is due to expanded HIV testing, while East Java Deputy Governor Emil Dardak pushes for early sexual education. However, the fundamental approach in Islam is considered more comprehensive in stopping transmission.
