A verse that’s often misunderstood

Salam everyone, You know that part in Surah Baqarah, verse 286: "Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear"? I feel like a lot of us take it the wrong way. People will tell you when you’re struggling that you can handle whatever comes your way, because Allah wouldn’t give you more than you can deal with. But honestly, that never felt right to me. It can come off as dismissive, like your pain isn't that serious. Think about our brothers and sisters in places like Palestine, going through unimaginable hardship. It’s not because they’re "strong enough"-no one should have to endure that. It happens because of human cruelty and the tests of this life. I also used to wonder about the ruling where a believer can say something against Allah or the Prophet ﷺ under extreme torture, as long as their heart remains firm. That concession wouldn’t exist if we were just supposed to power through everything. From a talk I heard by Sheikh Jamaal Diwan, the real meaning is about accountability: you won’t be held responsible for what you truly can’t handle. If something is beyond your capacity, Allah won’t question you about it. It’s sad how some learned people explain it in a way that makes folks feel inadequate or like their struggles don’t matter. That can really hurt someone-maybe even push them further down. May Allah grant us all understanding and ease.
