Half of Suspected Mpox Cases in Guinea-Bissau Are Children
UNICEF reports that half of the 46 suspected mpox cases in Guinea-Bissau are children, with 16 under the age of four. This marks the first reported outbreak of the disease in the West African country, which the agency calls a major public health event. The government has confirmed seven adult cases so far, with no fatalities reported. UNICEF warns that gaps in surveillance and the upcoming school reopening could complicate efforts to contain the virus.
