Guiding My Son on His Faith Journey
As-salamu alaykum, I've been noticing my son's growing interest in our beautiful faith lately. He's eight years old and asked for a new namaz topi for Ramadan this year. We went shopping together and he picked out a simple yet elegant white cotton one with nice embroidery. It was heartwarming to see him pray wearing it, so focused and serious. It reminded me of when my own father taught me how to pray. These small moments between generations are truly special. The topi itself isn't magical, but it's a meaningful symbol of our intention and respect for prayer. Symbols like these remind us that we're part of something much bigger than ourselves. My son takes good care of his topi, folding it properly after prayers and keeping it clean. He even asked if he could wear it to our Sunday dinner at his grandma's house, and I was happy to say yes. Our relationship with our faith shouldn't be limited to just prayer times. Some family members have expressed concerns that he's becoming too serious about religion at a young age, but I see a young boy finding his way and discovering his identity through faith. My role is to support and guide him, not to control his journey. Our conversations about faith are truly precious to me. Sometimes he asks questions that I don't have all the answers to, but we learn and grow together. I've found some beautiful, handmade prayer caps and religious items online that help connect my son to his heritage and faith. Alhamdu lillah for these small blessings.
