Former Minister Yaqut Qoumas Denies Receiving Rp 4.8 Billion Profit in Hajj Quota Corruption Case

Former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has denied the KPK prosecutors' charges regarding the alleged corruption in the additional hajj quota for 2023-2024. He insisted he never received a single penny in profit from the management of those quotas. "I never received one rupiah from the process that is now the subject of this case," he said after the first hearing at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, Tuesday (11/8). Yaqut said the accusation of personal gain amounting to USD 271,500, or around Rp 4.8 billion, was merely an assumption. He stressed that the recipients of the money had been named in the indictment, and the flow of funds to him was baseless. "The ones who received it have been mentioned, and there is a mention of money flowing to me, and that is just an assumption," he explained. During the trial, Yaqut was charged with causing state losses of Rp 622 billion along with three other defendants.
