Foreign Ministers from 20 Muslim Countries Highlight Al-Aqsa, Discuss Collective Measures
More than 20 Muslim countries talked about practical and diplomatic steps to respond to the situation at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in a ministerial meeting in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday (5/8/2026). Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called the meeting historic, with a focus on Jerusalem, Gaza, and the West Bank amid regional tensions.
Participants stressed that international attention shouldn't be diverted from Palestine despite other escalating conflicts. Fidan warned that shifting focus could allow changes in the situation on the ground. This meeting marks a shift from separate condemnations towards coordinating a collective response.
So far, there are no concrete details on joint actions, but the consolidation process is seen as strategic. Jordan was reaffirmed as the custodian of holy sites in East Jerusalem. Fidan said that violations against Al-Aqsa are seen by Turkey as violations against the values of the Muslim community.
