Finding My Path to Islam

As-salamu alaykum, my name is Ben and I'm from Huntsville, Alabama. Lately, I've been feeling a strong connection to Islam and I'm considering reverting. Growing up in a church in the South didn't feel right for me, but there's something about the Quran and Islamic teachings that resonates deeply. I'm a little worried about being accepted by the community, though - as a white, American male and a veteran, I've had some negative experiences in the past. I never deployed, but I know some people got offended when I showed them a prayer rug my father got for me while he was in Iraq. I just want to learn more about the religion and find out if I'd be welcome. I'm looking for guidance and support on my journey to understanding Islam.
