FIM Co-Founder: Probing Discrimination Against Indonesians in Bali Is Vital to Uphold Legal Authority
The Immigration Directorate General's firm stance in investigating alleged discrimination against Indonesian citizens at the Bali Silent Disco Canggu event has drawn praise. Muhammad Sutisna, co-founder of the Young Intellectuals Forum, sees the swift action as crucial to safeguarding national legal authority. He calls the incident a sign of social segregation that undermines sovereignty.
Sutisna stresses that Bali's openness as a tourist destination shouldn't override Indonesia's values of equality and law. He pushes for a thorough audit of the event's legality and the residence permits of the foreign organizers. If violations are proven, he says the harshest penalties-like deportation and blacklisting-must be enforced.
He also urges stronger regulations and collaborative oversight in strategic tourist areas. Cooperation among Immigration, the Police, local governments, and traditional villages is deemed key to ensuring foreign nationals' activities stay transparent and compliant with Indonesian law.
