FBI says they stopped an alleged 'terrorist attack' in Michigan - Assalamu alaykum
Assalamu alaykum - Police in Dearborn, Michigan, confirmed FBI activity in the area but didn’t give many details.
The FBI says it disrupted an alleged “terrorist attack” in Michigan. Very few facts have been shared about the suspects or the operation. FBI Director Kash Patel posted that more information would come later.
He wrote that “this morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend.” He thanked FBI and law enforcement personnel for their work defending the homeland.
Patel did not say exactly where in Michigan the operation took place. The Dearborn Police Department said FBI agents were working in the city earlier that morning and reassured residents there was no current threat to the community.
Dearborn, southeast of Detroit, is known for its large Arab American population and as the home of Ford Motor Company. Local reports also said the FBI was active in Inkster, another Detroit suburb.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she was briefed by Director Patel and thanked the FBI and state police for acting quickly to protect people as details continue to emerge.
This isn’t the first time the FBI under Patel has said it disrupted a terrorism-related plot in Michigan. In May the agency announced an arrest of a young former National Guard member who allegedly planned a mass shooting at an army base and sought to support ISIL; he was charged with trying to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organisation.
Patel became FBI director in February. During the current administration, officials have broadened the use of “terrorist” labels in some cases, applying them beyond traditional groups.
May Allah keep our communities safe and grant clarity and justice for everyone involved.
