Ebola Cases in Congo Surpass 1,000, Death Toll at 254
The Health Ministry of the Democratic Republic of Congo reported that confirmed Ebola cases have risen to 1,003 since the outbreak was declared on May 15, 2025. A total of 254 people have died, with a fatality rate reaching 25.3 percent.
Health Minister Roger Kamba said that emergency response teams continue to carry out active investigations and preventive measures in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces. So far, 100 patients have been declared recovered, while 365 others are still in isolation or receiving hospital treatment.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned of a potentially worse outbreak than the 2014–2016 West Africa Ebola epidemic if transmission isn't quickly brought under control. The Congolese government keeps ramping up communication, diagnosis, and case management to curb the spread.
