East Java ISNU Launches 35 Certified Halal Butchers to Ensure Meat Halalness in Markets
The East Java Regional Board of the Nahdlatul Ulama Scholars Association (ISNU) has re-launched 35 Certified Halal Butchers (Juleha) certified by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) on Sunday, May 3rd. This step is taken to close a critical gap in the upstream sector of the national halal supply chain, considering the halalness of animal products is determined from the very first slaughtering process.
East Java ISNU Secretary, Muhammad Dawud, revealed that the national need for Juleha personnel reaches tens of thousands of people. Over two days at the Surabaya Suites Hotel and the Pegirian Slaughterhouse (RPH), the participants not only delved into fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), but also conducted field practices until declared competent by BNSP assessors. East Java ISNU is committed to filling that vacancy with professional personnel who have a strong religious foundation.
This strategic step was warmly welcomed by KH Ma'ruf Khozin, the caretaker of the Raudlatul Ulum Suramadu Islamic Boarding School. According to him, it is time for Nahdlatul Ulama members to systematically enter the value chain of the halal industry so that the public will no longer doubt the halalness of meat in traditional markets. With expertise in the field of slaughtering, East Java ISNU has now become part of the frontline in ensuring the integrity of halal product guarantees in Indonesia.
