DPR Budget Committee Responds to JK's Proposal on Fuel Price Increase
The House of Representatives (DPR) Budget Committee (Banggar) asserts that the state budget's fundamentals remain strong to maintain economic stability, in response to former Vice President Jusuf Kalla's proposal for the government to raise fuel prices. Banggar Deputy Chair Wihadi Wiyanto stated that the state budget functions as an active stabilization instrument to absorb external shocks, including pressures from global energy price hikes.
Wihadi outlined the state budget's performance up to March 2026, with inflation controlled at 3.48 percent, Q4 2025 economic growth reaching 5.39 percent, and the manufacturing PMI in the expansion zone. He emphasized that the state budget deficit remains under control with a safe debt ratio, and state revenue grew 10.5 percent year-on-year to Rp574.9 trillion.
The Banggar has also received the government's explanation regarding budget refocusing through efficiency in non-priority spending to increase energy subsidies. This step is considered crucial to avoid domino effects such as inflation, a decline in public purchasing power, and a slowdown in national economic growth.
