DMI East Java Encourages Mosques to Become Centers for Disaster Resilience and Community Economic Empowerment
Surabaya – The East Java Regional Board of the Indonesian Mosque Council (PW DMI) held a Disaster Capacity Building Training for 50 regional administrators across East Java at the East Java BPBD Disaster Education Park on Saturday (11/7). PW DMI East Java Chairman Dr. KH M. Sudjak MAg stressed that mosques must be prepared to face disasters and expand their function as centers of community resilience.
In addition to disaster preparedness, DMI East Java is also focusing on community economic empowerment through mosque digitization programs, embracing the younger generation, and empowering MSMEs via the Halal Center. A ZISWAF Transformation Workshop had previously been held to develop productive waqf to build education, health, and economic self-reliance for the ummah.
During the training, participants received material from the East Java BPBD about 14 types of potential disasters in the region, self-rescue techniques like drop, cover, hold on, as well as simulations using VR and a Simulator Room. DMI East Java hopes mosques will increasingly serve as resilient and adaptive community service centers.
