Cuba's water crisis worsens, affecting millions amid oil shortage

Water shortages in Cuba have intensified, now affecting approximately 3.5 million people, or about a third of the population. The crisis is linked to an ongoing oil shortage, which has also increased power outages. The Cuban Institute of Hydraulic Resources reported the increase from 2.6 million people affected in August 2025.
