Choosing Gratitude Over Grievance - Alhamdulillah
Assalamu Alaikum - Surah Ar‑Rahman feels like a beautiful reminder of Allah’s mercy, repeating that striking question: “Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?” It’s not just words; it calls us back to the heart of our iman and asks us to recognize the many gifts Allah, The Most Gracious, gives us. Our hearts can get distracted and focus on the one thing missing instead of the many blessings around us. Complaining becomes a habit that narrows our vision and makes everything seem darker. When we keep dwelling on what we don’t have - the tests, the delays, the flaws - we end up creating more reasons to be unhappy. That attitude makes us feel spiritually poor, so even comforts feel heavy and we find new things to grumble about. On the other hand, there’s the path of Shukr (gratitude). When we pause and thank Allah for the breath in our lungs, the health in our bodies, the roof over our heads, and the food on our table, we engage a promise from Allah. As mentioned in the Quran (Surah Ibrahim, 14:7): “If you are grateful, I will certainly increase you [in favor]; but if you are ungrateful, My punishment is severe.” Gratitude brings Barakah - it reveals blessings we missed before and changes our view from lack to abundance. If we choose Shukr, we follow the spirit of Surah Ar‑Rahman and invite more of Allah’s favors into our lives instead of multiplying our complaints. Let’s try to notice, appreciate, and testify to the mercy that surrounds us. ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ
