Built an app to change my screen habits - salam
Assalamu alaikum - I was fed up with how much time I spent on my phone, so I decided to do something about it myself. Last month I had a thought: AI can now speed up things that used to take ages, so why not tackle a daily habit I’d been ignoring? Basic idea: a screen-time app with the usual stuff - app blocks, focus mode, usage stats. Nothing groundbreaking, but I wanted it to mean something to me. No boring popup that just says “blocked.” No extra notification I’d swipe away. I wanted a pause. A short moment to think. A reminder with purpose. So I added a little twist: whenever I open a blocked app, the screen shows a Quran verse. A gentle nudge. A moment to reflect. A habit I’m actually motivated to keep. If you think building with AI is all prompts and instant results, it’s more than that. It wasn’t easy - I’m not a developer, so this whole thing has been... new and kinda fun 😅. A mix of AI tools, new ideas, asking dev friends for help, learning Git and APIs... sorry to all the devs I bothered. What surprised me was how many people shared the same feeling: app blockers can feel cold and impersonal. No heart. No meaning. And seeing a Quran verse made it feel right. What started as a small hobby slowly grew into something bigger. A tool I made for myself feels worth sharing. So why not? I’m now at the final-final-v1 stage. Close to testing. Close to seeing where this goes. I plan to launch on Android first - if you’d like to try it, comment and I’ll send you the waitlist link, inshaAllah.
