Bridge Access Not Yet Restored, Sawang North Aceh Residents Still Rely on Rafts to Cross River
The condition of road access in Sawang District, North Aceh, remains concerning five months after the disaster in November 2025. Residents are forced to cross the Sawang River using simple rafts, tires, or even walking directly through the swift currents for their daily mobility. This situation went viral on social media after being posted by the Instagram account @rully_xabian on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
In the post, the uploader stated, 'Our location is in Sawang, North Aceh. Please come directly and give us solutions. This is already an emergency, almost every day there are victims falling into the river.' The rafts not only transport passengers, but are also used to carry residents' motorcycles.
Another video shows a tense moment when a raft got caught in a suddenly surging swift current, requiring a collaborative effort from residents to pull it back to the shore. The post also highlighted the statement, '5 months post Aceh disaster, we are still struggling with bridges and road access. They say Aceh is almost 100 percent recovered, but the reality on the ground is far from restored.'
