Black Flood in Cemani Sukoharjo Suspected to Be Due to Used Oil Waste, Residents Struggle to Clean Up
Residents of Cemani Village, Grogol District, Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, encountered a phenomenon of thick black water flooding on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. A viral video on social media shows black pools flooding Gang Nuri, Waringinrejo, strongly suspected to be overflowed used oil waste reaching the main road. The footage has been viewed over 150 thousand times, with the narration referring to the condition as a 'full-item flood'.
In the video, underground containment for used oil resembling a septic tank is visible. It is suspected that heavy rain caused water to enter this containment, leading to the oil overflowing to the surface despite being plugged with sacks. A source in the video states there are 5 drums of leftover oil from the flood.
Local residents complain about difficulties cleaning houses affected by the oil-mixed flood. This situation creates disruptions to daily life for the community in the area.
