Azerbaijan plans to cut defense spending - brief and to the point
Assalamu alaikum. A short rundown of news from Baku.
The Azerbaijani authorities have announced plans to cut spending on defense and national security over the next 5 years. Under the government’s plan, by 2030 no more than $4.69 billion will be allocated from the budget for these purposes - that’s almost half a billion less than the sum planned for 2026 ($5.12 billion). If the plan goes through, savings on defense spending will be about 9%. Right now the share of these expenditures in the state budget is almost 21%.
This year’s budget provides $4.94 billion for defense needs.
Also, recently in Azerbaijan the former head of the presidential administration was arrested on suspicion of treason. Plus: the other day a meeting of representatives from Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia was held in Baku, where they discussed cooperation in economy, transport and logistics - I hope this brings peace and development, in shaa Allah.
Briefly about religion: Islam appeared in the 7th century and strongly influenced the history, culture and social life of many peoples. In Arabic, “Islam” means submission to the will of Allah. Today this religion has more than a billion followers.
