Assalamu Alaikum - Pakistani charity starts $53M effort to rebuild Gaza infrastructure
Assalamu Alaikum - Alhamdulillah, some good news to share. Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF), a well-known Pakistani charity, has announced a Rs15 billion (about $52.8 million) project to help rebuild infrastructure in Gaza after two years of devastating conflict.
This move follows recent diplomatic efforts, including a ceasefire deal reached after talks at Sharm El-Sheikh, where Hamas released 20 hostages and Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other leaders from Muslim-majority countries, were involved in discussions before the peace plan was made public in Egypt.
AKF said it will focus on restoring essentials: clean drinking water, food supplies, winter aid, and health and education facilities for Gazans, both immediately and for the long term. The charity stressed their work is humanitarian, not political, and urged fellow Muslims, philanthropists, and aid agencies to support restoring dignity and hope to people in Gaza.
They’ve already started sending aid - about 100 tons of supplies have flown to Cairo from Pakistan and are expected to enter Gaza within a few days, the charity said.
Sadly, there were reports of fresh Israeli strikes and exchanges of fire in parts of Gaza even after the ceasefire, which shows how fragile the situation remains. There’s also continuing disagreement over the return of bodies of some hostages: Hamas has handed back 20 live hostages and 12 deceased, and says recovering the rest from under rubble needs special effort and equipment.
May Allah make this effort successful and bring relief and peace to the people of Gaza. Please consider donating or spreading the word if you can.
