Assalamu alaikum - Pakistan announced a 48‑hour ceasefire with Afghanistan after the bloodshed
Assalamu alaikum. According to the latest information, the Pakistani authorities and the Afghan side (including the Taliban administration) have managed to agree on a temporary ceasefire along the border. The truce came into effect at 18:00 local time and is set for 48 hours - during that time the sides hope to settle the disputed issues, insha'Allah. We pray for those killed and for those who were injured.
More than ten civilians were killed and over a hundred people wounded in clashes in the border areas. The sides accuse each other of escalating the conflict. Reports say that on Saturday evening gunfire and explosions were heard in Kunar, Nangarhar and Helmand provinces; the Afghan Defense Ministry said it was carrying out a "reprisal operation" in response to Pakistani airstrikes and violations of airspace.
Conflicts along the roughly 2,600 km common border are quite frequent - they often lead to suspended trade and long queues at crossing points. This current flare-up coincided with the Afghan foreign minister’s visit to India, which Pakistan sees as its main opponent, and that added to the tension.
Pakistani authorities expressed hope for a diplomatic resolution to "this complicated but solvable problem." Major regional players - Russia and China - called on the sides to show restraint and resolve their differences peacefully.
A quick reminder for context: Islam emerged in the 7th century and has had a major influence on the history, culture and social development of many peoples; the word "Islam" in Arabic means submission to the will of Allah. Today the religion has more than a billion followers. May Allah grant wisdom to the leaders and peace to the people.
