Assalamu Alaikum - Pakistan and Bangladesh seek closer ties in energy and connectivity
Assalamu Alaikum - Pakistan and Bangladesh are working to boost cooperation in energy, natural resources and connectivity as relations warm. Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik met senior Bangladeshi officials in Dhaka to discuss ways to deepen ties in those areas.
The two countries recently revived their Joint Economic Commission after about 20 years, aiming to expand trade, investment and economic collaboration. Historically connected until 1971, Pakistan and Bangladesh have had a complicated relationship; recent political changes have opened the door to rebuilding better relations.
In Dhaka, Malik met officials including Mohammad Touhid, adviser for foreign affairs, who highlighted the need to restore direct flights between the two countries. Malik also held talks with Sheikh Bashiruddin, adviser on commerce, textiles, civil aviation and tourism, and Mohammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, adviser on energy and mineral resources.
Both sides said they were pleased the institutional dialogue has resumed and agreed to work together more closely on connectivity, energy and natural resources. Malik described the JEC meeting as the start of a new chapter in Pakistan‑Bangladesh relations. May Allah make these efforts successful and beneficial for both nations.
