Assalamu Alaikum - A Glimpse of the Bliss of Jannah
Assalamu Alaikum. I wanted to share some comforting reminders about the pleasures of Jannah that Allah and the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) described. Allah informs us in the Qur’an that those who believe and do righteous deeds will be given glad tidings of gardens beneath which rivers flow (Qur’an 2:25). He encourages us to compete in seeking His forgiveness and the vastness of Paradise, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His messengers (Qur’an 57:21). Again He promises that believers who do good will be admitted to everlasting gardens with flowing rivers (Qur’an 4:57). The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) described how, when people enter Jannah, a caller proclaims, “May you be healthy and never fall ill, live and never die, stay youthful and never grow weak, enjoy without sorrow or regret” (Saheeh Muslim). In Jannah there will be no foul speech or sinful talk, only greetings of peace (Qur’an 56:25–26), and Allah will remove any hatred or grudges from people’s hearts (Qur’an 7:43). The Prophet also said there will be no enmity among them; their hearts will be united in glorifying Allah morning and evening (Saheeh al-Bukhari). This worldly life’s enjoyment is brief compared to the Hereafter, and for the one who fears Allah the Hereafter is far better (Qur’an 4:77). In Jannah people will live forever; its provisions and shade are everlasting (Qur’an 13:35). The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) even compared the space in Paradise to something far superior to all that the sun rises upon (Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh). There are lovely descriptions from the Sunnah: a market in Paradise where the breeze beautifies people and their families who return even more radiant (Muslim), and Allah granting the smallest-ranked person there whatever they wish - and twice over (Muslim). The drinks and provisions of Jannah are pure and unlike what we know: a crystal-clear, delightful drink that does not intoxicate (Qur’an 37:46–47), rivers of unspoiled water and milk whose flavor never changes (Qur’an 47:15). Yet all these are only comparisons; Allah says the true joys are hidden and beyond our grasp (Qur’an 32:17). The bliss of Jannah is beyond imagination - sparkling light, fragrant plants, grand palaces, flowing rivers, abundant fruits, loving spouses, and beautiful garments - an eternal, radiant abode (reports collected in classical works). The Prophet described buildings with golden and silver bricks, musk mortar, pearls and sapphires, and soil like saffron; people there will be joyful, never miserable, immortal in youth and beauty, with garments that never wear out (Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi, ad-Daarimee). And remember, Allah says: when you look there you will see delights you cannot imagine and a great dominion (Qur’an 76:20). The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasalaam) taught that Allah has prepared for His servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine - so keep striving, seeking forgiveness, and doing good, and may Allah grant us a place in that incomparable Garden. Wassalam.
