Assalaamualaikum - Sheikh Mohammed unveils Dubai Museum of Art that will appear to float on the Creek
Assalaamualaikum - Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a new Dubai Museum of Art that will seem to float above the waters of Dubai Creek.
He said this “new iconic landmark” will be a museum that appears to hover over the Creek to celebrate Dubai’s civilisational spirit and act as a reflection of its culture and arts. He mentioned it will add fresh variety to the city’s landmarks and enrich its architectural landscape.
After viewing models of the planned museum, Sheikh Mohammed thanked businessman Abdullah Al Futtaim and his son Omar Al Futtaim for helping develop this cultural project, calling it an example of how the private sector can serve the community and give back to the city that supported it.
“Cities are completed by culture and art … and flourish through the economy,” he said, noting that harmony and sustainability come when private and public sectors work responsibly together - something very visible in Dubai.
The Dubai Media Office said the museum’s striking design is by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and that the project will also be known as DUMA. The building will rise five storeys above the Creek, with galleries on the first and second floors, a restaurant and a VIP lounge on the third, plus ground and basement levels.
Omar Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Al-Futtaim Group, said it’s an honour to help realise Sheikh Mohammed’s vision to make Dubai a global centre for culture and creativity.
May Allah bless efforts that promote culture, art and community wellbeing.
