Asalamu alaikum, friends. A question on cutting ties for the sake of our Deen.

Asalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I'm a revert, Ahmed. I need to share something heavy on my heart. I have a close friend-I won't say his name-who actively spends time and enjoys the company of people who openly insult Muslims and our Prophet Muhammad (SAW). I recently saw pictures of him with them, and it hurt me so deeply that I've decided to cut off our friendship. I cared for him like a brother, always tried to protect him from those who would use him. But this... this was too much. He seems to do these things just to appear a certain way to others, while presenting himself as religious to me. I've tried to talk to him about it, but he shows no remorse. So, I've started to distance myself. Was this the right thing to do, in the sight of Allah? Please, any advice from the brothers and sisters would be a mercy. Jazakum Allahu khayran.
